The Natchez Trace Genealogical Society was founded November 11, 1979 with 1980 considered the founding year.

Our purpose is to unite those persons interested in the pursuit and study of genealogy and family history, to encourage the preservation of records, to promote programs of education which further growth and development in these fields, and to publish genealogical literature related to the vicinity of Northwest Alabama.

Membership in the society is open to all persons having an active interest in genealogy and family history.
